Digital Public Library of America Project, Some thoughts and questions

Gearing up to travel to plenary session on Friday.  Some broad brush questions:
Collection development – who selects what is included in the collection? (Library of America, quick pick for inclusion)

What are the organizing principals and finding aids?

Intellectual property rights & fair use (Creative Commons license of content?)

Bandwidth (if DPLA is all on-line; will there be an off-line component? Universal broadband access in the US slated to happen by 2020.)

Where will the DPLA be maintained? Server capacity/technical infrastructure

How will it be governed & funded? (Long term sustainability)

Who are the users? How will they learn about & how to use the DPLA? Public librarians as hometown champions of the collection.  DPLA isn’t a substitute for brick and mortar public libraries.

Looking forward to learning more.
