Same-Sex Families Don’t Count?

Same-sex couples who are legally married will not be counted as families in the 2010 Census.  Because the federal government doesn’t recognize same-sex marriages, the Census Bureau will count the thousands of gay and lesbian couples who mailed in their box tops and got offical marriage certificates as “unmarried partners.”

My wife and I have been together for 25 years.  We’re married (and a have piece of paper to prove it). We have two children (and have cheese stick wrapers in front of the t.v. set to prove it).  We are a family (and have the love to prove it).  What a rotten shame that we have to keep proving it.
