Same-sex couples who are legally married will not be counted as families in the 2010 Census. Because the federal government doesn’t recognize same-sex marriages, the Census Bureau will count the thousands of gay and lesbian couples who mailed in their box tops and got offical marriage certificates as “unmarried partners.”
